A Long-standing Legacy

Once upon a time, home remedies passed from generation to generation were the most trusted option to relieve sicknesses and ailments. Snake oil salesmen scoured the streets, peddling kitchen-sink concoctions they claimed were miracle cures. Community health had few true champions, and neighborhood healthcare heroes were hard to find.

Then in 1752, one of America’s first pharmacies opened its doors. One hundred years later, the American Pharmaceutical (now Pharmacists) Association (APhA) was founded – establishing the first professional organization for pharmacists and birthing a league of leaders who proudly put on the cape to protect their communities’ health.

In 2020, pharmacists were called to task. COVID-19 struck the globe and ran rampant through communities far and wide, leaving behind a trail of devastation. But pharmacists stepped in and administered more than 300 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, meaning over 90% of vaccinations were delivered at pharmacies.

Today, most people in America live within walking distance of a pharmacist’s expertise. Pharmacists offer medication counseling, health and wellness services, immunizations, and more in neighborhoods nationwide. With their impact on community health established, many pharmacists now advocate for the opportunity to be viewed as providers who work at the top of their license.
